The Pre-Alpine Express, or the Voralpen-Express as it is known locally, is an excellent way to explore the gentle foothills and charming towns of Switzerland; the more relaxed and laidback side of this Alpine nation. As the name suggests, this railway shows off the less well-known image of Switzerland, revealing more of the everyday life through specially designed panoramic windows. Enormous bridges, rolling vineyards and lonely farmhouses all make an appearance as passengers travel from St Gallen to Lucerne.
