Salamanca

During its long and prosperous past, Salamanca has been decorated with an array of magnificent buildings dotted around its historic centre. The highlights include two wonderful cathedrals - the 12th-century Old Cathedral, and the New Cathedral from the 16th century - as well as the lavish city hall and the mighty Monterrey Palace. In addition to these are the historic colleges of the famous university, as well as the staggering Plaza Mayor, which is possibly the jewel in Salamanca's impressive crown. In recognition of its rich heritage and fabulous collection of cultural monuments, UNESCO awarded Salamanca with World Heritage status in 1988, and today the city continues to delight visitors from all over the world.
