Read moreWith its undulating landscapes, picturesque villages and rare wildlife, the Isle of Mull is a popular destination for any visitor to Scotland. Standing in the Inner Hebrides just off the mainland's west coast, the island is one of Britain's largest and most famous.
Duart Castle
One of the Isle of Mull's most popular attractions is
undoubtedly Duart Castle, the ancestral home of the Maclean Clan.
The castle originally dates back to the 13th century, and was the
principal base for the Isle of Mull's seaborn power for hundreds of
years. Duart was allowed to fall into disrepair amid ownership
struggles between the Macleans and the Dukes of nearby Argyll, but
thankfully these issues were resolved in the late 19th century and
the castle has since been beautifully preserved.
Occupying a superb position overlooking Loch Don, the castle and its beauty have not gone unnoticed by film makers. Duart has featured in a number of film and television productions, perhaps the most famous of these being the Sean Connery film 'Entrapment'. Today the castle is open to the public, with exhibitions in its stately rooms and even its dungeons, as well as an opportunity to admire the views from the top of the keep.
