Mayrhofen lies in the Zillertal of the Tyrol,
approximately an hour from the Tyrolean capital city of Innsbruck,
located between the Penken and Ahorn mountains. The Penken can be
reached by a gondola system that can be found on the main street in
the centre of the village, while the Ahorn cable car, which as of
2008 is the largest cable car in Austria (carrying 160 passengers),
is situated at the southern end of the town.
The picturesque resort of Mayrhofen is a popular tourist
destination throughout the year. It is a great base for walks, with
tracks suitable for everyone ranging from beginners to people
looking for something more adventurous. Alternatively, explore the
cobbled streets lined with shops, restaurants and pavement
cafés.
