Windhoek

Windhoek is the capital of Namibia, and is located roughly in the country's centre. The city is set in a beautiful valley bordered by the Eros and Auas Mountains. Historically, the city's location meant that it was easy to defend, as defensive structures on the hills stopped most outside forces. Nowadays the position is slightly unfortunate, as there is very little room to expand the thriving city.

Virtually all of Namibia's national enterprises are based in Windhoek, including all of the financial buildings and the major media. It is also home to the country's only theatre. Having been part of the German Empire in the Colonial era, Windhoek became part of South West Africa before it was selected to be Namibia's capital on the country's independence in 1990.
